What is Startup Shop Talk?
My name is Josh David Miller, aka JDM, and I’ve helped more than a hundred companies launch or scale their product over the years. Every Thursday at 10am Pacific on YouTube, I’m opening my doors to your questions.
You can ask me anything! Growth, revenue, product-market fit, pitching, traction, business models, tools, tips, techniques, and whatever else is on your mind. I’ll do my best to give you advice that’s comprehensive, useful, and immediately actionable.
There are three ways you can join the discussion:
- Join the livestream! Ask questions, provide advice, or just hang out. Here’s the playlist on YouTube.
- Ask me a question in advance by recording a quick video using this form (you can also write a message, if you prefer).
- The replays are always available on my YouTube channel.

Got a question for me?
You can join the livestream and ask a question using YouTube’s live chat feature, but you can also submit a question in advance using the link below. You can record a quick video question, type out a longer question, or record a voice message. This is handy if you want to ask a nuanced question, or if you can’t join the livestream and want to watch the answer later.
Without all your expertise...I’m afraid our product would be a footnote rather than a story... My startup life is so much more productive studying from you.

Who am I?
About the host
My name is JDM — aka Josh David Miller — and I’m an instigator on something of a quixotic quest to fix entrepreneurship by challenging how we think about our craft. Those who know me best describe my superpower as finding the right next question to ask to create focus, clarity, and potency.
I’m an entrepreneur and startup adviser who has used my unabashedly nerdy obsession with the metacognition of entrepreneurship & innovation to help nearly one hundred startups and corporate innovators launch or scale products. I also use what I’ve learned along the way to create videos on YouTube, host the Inside the Box podcast, and host the Startup Shop Talk live show.
In 2022, I founded The Right Box, a bespoke team of entrepreneurs, design thinkers, and instigators of change to collaborate with teams to unlock growth and scale through innovative decision-making.
I also volunteer more time than I’d care to count as a startup ecosystem builder in Sacramento and help organize 1 Million Cups Sacramento, a weekly founder meetup.
